flomich Cotswold here would like to welcome you to the lake Career and Technical Center I am the welding and Metal Fab instructor here at the school liked a little bit about my course and show you around and and I'll let you know what to what to expect when you get here so I might each the 3-hour block which is the welding and metal welding machine tool course I also the one our block which is intro to welding an outfit each to our block welding industry fundamental the court reserved are designed to come and get you in touch with what you might need might experience within the industry as well as gets you marry with the types of tools and equipment that should be close to you if you decide to get an industry or good as a hobby or or just in general general knowledge about the welding industry so that a certification for the students who complete one year or the two-year course certifications would be I was here first year you would be allowed to take the written portion of the $0.80 written test and then also they performance-based showing at work destruction test provided by a the test is provided by a certified welding inspector that comes to the premises text do the testing second position would give the student could be the horizontal would give the student the flat position or the end of horizontal certification the student passes that it is recommended that they would go ahead and move forward second gear to these three third position or the vertical position so they can get that served as well that would allow them if they took the first few years that would allow them to leave here with two certifications and competency for welding in the industry which would help them with a benefit of a placement in the industry a video of the requirements that safety glasses when they get here we will Mark those with her name students are strongly encouraged not to share safety glasses safety equipment that is used in the in the course while they're here as in the industry you would be required to do the same you would be required to to possess and and maintain your own safety and not provide not be provided equipment your co-workers and things like that for the safety glasses will be provided we do recommend also welding helmets with them and welding gloves for the process it is recommended that the students has required the student wear closed-toed shoe recommended to be a steel toe but as long as it's a closed solid toe shoe or boot would be fantastic jeans with no phrase can be great at least 50% cotton on the material makeup on those long sleeve shirt I recommend a button-up long-sleeve shirt to be a little more temperature controlled while you're in here that needs to be at least 50% cotton before you before we start to weld certifications again we've gone through the certifications we also do I provide dual-credit through the course with State Fair Community College so we back something that a student can work forward to themselves in the past we have also supported to a plus it's recommended that the students provide themselves with a open mind and courage to come here with a desire to truly to learn what their heels that are offered in this course so some of the skills that we will offer or that we do offer is basic knowledge basic correct and safe use of hand tools basic Houston safe use of welding equipment Weatherby a stick welder or shielded metal Arc whatever whatever you choose to call it gas metal Arc or MIG welder whichever you choose to chart to call it as well as gas tungsten arc welding for TIG welding whatever you choose to call it also provide carbon Arc cutting automated plasma cutting automated Machining for for the 3-hour block and possibly some of the 2-hour block various vendors shearing machines all this the safety is all required by all the students to be knowledgeable of the safety of of all the equipment that they're using students will we will have a general practice 2nd year students and students have caught up on all of their their required practicing and certifications will be allowed to go forth with them project we we do encourage students to broaden their mind and kind of keep the you know Spirit had to take a walk around the shop and kind of give me an idea of what we've got what kind of equipment we have and and what we have to offer you is you're coming here to the glass down here on the floor here we have some of our machines first one here will be a gas tungsten arc welder as well as a MIG welder as well as a stick welder gives me this is this is going to be one of our MIG welding machines we do we do have welding boost across the face of the of the shop here along with a central ventilation system which allows the students to stay safe while they're in the working environment I working tables areas for grinding and Center punching layout things like that we do we also provide that Rasta providing the opportunity for them to use state-of-the-art hearing machines drill presses Milling machines whatever engine lays this is an older one back over here we are currently using trying to use our CNC lathe this year so they will be the second year students in the 3-hour block will provided with an opportunity to learn themselves a little bit in CNC Machining and operating and programming so we also have we also have a kind of a large area for for the project this is a project that we didn't get to finish last year that will be finished up this is also another project that we've been working on for a few years we working on that excuse the motorcycles we are not a motorcycle course they would they use they utilize the course the area to store the motorcycle tour after school so some of the ladies that we have the engine light with the students were required to work on and then we also in the back here we have our CNC milling machine Haas CNC mini Mill milling machine so which is another requirement for the course and the encouragement for the court just looking forward to seeing everybody and and welcome everybody back to class this is our cutting area the ferry right here so yeah this is where shearing or metal shearing machine didn't we required to safely operate those and learn to sniff you out safely operate the never saw that were we working with so yeah toolroom so you kind of a little bit with us Wellington State Park so is that the welding boots we have the little paddle where the students would actually perform that well the pain they can clamp they can clamp to the to the paddle and move the thing around whatever they need to do this these rooms do I do require them an opportunity use all three processes within this within this confined space with the ventilation Central ventilation system exit exhaust all of the the gases that are in the the working area where they're at so that provides enough space for for student instructor 2 do you have an adequate area to explanation of the welding process I can start looking forward to having everybody back show you one more thing is bizarre this is automated plasma cutter so excited about it it's new to us last year we had one prior to that but upgrading this is more of an industry base type cutting machine Contra style industrial torque does high quality high-quality processes looking forward sing everybody here coming up pretty quick and and welcoming although the incoming new students and welcoming back the returning student so again I'm at the welding and Metal instructor here at the school look forward to seeing you
