Work Based Learning Mission and Goals

Mission & Goals

Our Mission: To connect with partners in our local workforce in order to support and prepare LCTC students using real experience in a career field of their interest.

Our Goals: Create opportunities for students to use a “business/industry classroom” to connect with what is happening at school, to add value to the educational experience, and to clarify the vast number of options available to students.

Through work based learning it is our hope that a student will:

  • Develop knowledge and skills from their career and technical coursework and a desire to apply those skills in a related work experience
  • Build self-confidence and maturity through working with adults in a business environment
  • Improve academic success by connecting their academics to their future occupational goals
  • Gain more opportunities to connect and collaborate with all community stakeholders
  • Understand the importance of, and strive to build and maintain, relationships with people different from themselves
  • Build an understanding of themselves as lifelong learners and apply this to their future education and careers
  • Improve their communication skills

Through work based learning it is our hope that the professionals of LCTC will:

  • Improve our understanding of the needs of local employers in our respective industry/fields
  • Develop meaningful partnerships with local businesses/ industries to continue sending a powerful message about the importance of education and application to real world
  • Increase students’ career preparedness and knowledge of the habits (skills and competencies) that they will need for compensated work
  • Be better prepared to work toward improvement in teaching relevant employability skills
