Health Science Clinicals and HOSA Competition

Students in the Lake Career & Technical Center Health Science program have been busy gaining hands-on experience and showcasing their skills both in the classroom and beyond. Through their clinical rotations at Lake Regional Health System, students are stepping into real healthcare environments and working alongside professionals in a variety of departments.
During clinicals, students have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in class to real patient care situations. From assisting with basic patient needs to observing procedures and interacting with healthcare teams, these experiences are helping students build confidence, professionalism, and a deeper understanding of their future careers. Clinicals not only strengthen technical skills but also reinforce the compassion and communication that are essential in the healthcare field.

In addition to their clinical success, Health Science students recently competed in HOSA – Future Health Professionals competitions at the end of March.
State Competition Placers:
Brynn Austin- Health Living 3rd
Dexely Atilano Sanroman- Home Health 2nd
Students participated in a variety of events that tested their knowledge and skills in areas such as medical terminology, patient care, and emergency procedures. Their dedication, preparation, and passion for healthcare were evident as they represented LCTC with professionalism and pride.
These experiences, both in clinical settings and competitive events, are preparing students for success beyond high school. Whether they plan to enter the workforce or continue their education in healthcare, LCTC Health Science students are building a strong foundation for their futures.

Work-Based Learning Spotlight: Tessa Adkins

This month we are excited to highlight Tessa Adkins, a student in our Collision Repair Program, for our Work-Based Learning Spotlight. Tessa is currently gaining hands-on industry experience at Big Thunder Marine, where she works as a Paint Technician. In this role, she applies the skills she has learned in the classroom to real-world projects, helping prepare and finish surfaces with precision and attention to detail.
Tessa’s hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. She was recently recognized with the Breaking Traditions Award, which honors students who pursue careers in fields that are traditionally underrepresented by their gender. Her achievement reflects both her commitment to her craft and her willingness to step outside the norm to follow her passion.
Tessa encourages others to do the same, reminding students that if you are passionate about something, just go out and do it. We are proud of the work she is doing and look forward to seeing all she accomplishes in the future!

Check Out This Video of Tessa!

Thank you to the Collision Repair Education Foundation (CREF)

Our Collision Repair program has recently received generous donations from CREF that are making a big impact in their classroom! Thanks to the support of local businesses and community partners, students now have access to updated tools, materials, and equipment that better reflect what they will see in the industry.
These donations provide students with more opportunities to gain hands-on experience and continue building their skills in a real-world setting. From refinishing techniques to body work and detailing, having the right resources allows students to practice with confidence and precision while preparing for careers in the collision repair field.
Opportunities like this would not be possible without the continued support from our community. We are incredibly grateful for those who invest in our students and believe in the importance of career and technical education.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our Collision Repair program—your support is truly helping shape the future of our students!

LCTC Students At the Oak Ridge Intermediate Career Fair

LCTC students had an awesome time at the Oak Ridge Career Fair!
They did a great job representing our programs, connecting with younger students, and sharing the opportunities available at LCTC. From hands-on demonstrations to answering questions about their pathways, our students stepped into leadership roles and showed what it means to be career-ready.
We’re proud of the way they continue to inspire the next generation and make a lasting impact in our community!
